A few years ago I came across a large piece of art that was painted with an abstract scene of Charleston. At the time is was priced around $1,200 which was a lot of money (and still is) but something about this painting really struck me and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. A few days later I made it official and it become our first original piece of art. It hung in our breakfast area for a few years and now sits in my office.
Having that one piece of “real” art in our home actually did bring us a lot of joy. We all loved looking at it while we ate our meals and learned to appreciate each of the little details – like the gentle pencil strokes in the background and places where two colors merged together perfectly.
Today, we have collected a handful of other pieces from artists all over the country in our home and I have found some great local spots to hunt for the perfect pieces too. Below, I will include what artists you can currently find hanging on our walls and my recommendations of places to shop locally for original art.

- Revival Consignment – I know, I’m a broken record about this store but they really do have a great selection of original art that rotates through their store. There are smaller sizes which are a perfect introduction to owning art and also make great gifts!
- Palette Home – Their shop on Grove is a beautiful collection of art and gorgeous paints.
- Crossroads Art Center – This is a perfect place to start if you do not even know what you are looking for. You can browse many different styles of art and begin to take notice of what catches your eye.
- Gild & Ash – This adorable corner shop on Patterson & Libbie is filled with great gifts and lots of colorful art. Their selection ranges from small pieces to place on a shelf to large scale pieces for your living room walls.
- INTO/ART – I often shop their art when they host their annual pop up shop on Grove Avenue (usually in the fall) but you can also reach out at anytime from their website or Instagram and Whitney and Stevie can help you pick the perfect piece for your unique space.
